We are saddened to announce the passing of First UMC member, Hazel Rix, on Monday, Aug. 24. Her celebration of life will be Friday, October 16 at 10:00 am. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers this week.

We’ll be taking photos for our new pictorial directory this Sunday after all three worship services. The process will be simple. Fill out a short form with your contact information and get your family picture made. (Note: families are those in a household.)

We’ve had a few questions, so here are the answers. 
Yes, you can submit a picture - you don’t have to use the photos we will be taking on Sunday. Submit your photo and updated contact/household information via email to churchoffice@fumcstw.org.
Yes, anyone can participate. You don't have to be a member of the church to be in the directory.
Yes, you can choose what information you’d like to have listed in the directory for each person in your household.
Yes, we will provide the directory through BOTH an app and a printed version.
Yes, you must be in the directory in order to access the directory.
Yes, the staff controls access to the directory and can remove access, if necessary. We do feel this is a secure platform.
No, there is no charge to participate. If you want a printed copy, we’ll offer those at our cost which we anticipate to be $5-10/copy.
Yes, we’ll have another picture day on Sept. 13.

Pastor Charla will begin a five-week Wednesday evening class called, “Connect,” on Sept. 9. Join her for a look at the basics of being United Methodist. Beginning with the foundational beliefs of Christianity, the class will also explore unique emphases in the United Methodist Church. This course will meet from 6:30-7:30pm on Wednesday evenings in the Social Hall. Join us for the Midweek Meal (cost: $8/person) and stay for this course.

After a summer break, it is time to once again share a meal together on Wednesday evenings. Each week, we bring in supper from a local restaurant. So far, we’ve had McAlister’s Baked Potato Bar and Qdoba Hot Bar. We serve from 5:30-6:15pm and charge $8/person, $20 max/family. We’ve used the first few weeks of the fall to gauge interest and work out the details. Now, we’re inviting you to join us. We’d also love to have your help. Rose Bonjour, our Hospitality and Events Coordinator is putting together set up and clean up teams. You can reach her via email by CLICKING HERE with an offer to help.

A prayer shawl is handmade...a tangible gift given to any individual to remind them that they are wrapped in love and covered in prayer. Members of our congregation are encouraged to select a shawl and share it with anyone that might need the hug and prayer.

Weekly gatherings to create prayer shawls will be Thursdays from 11:30am until 1:30pm, beginning September 3. Everyone; experienced, beginner, or just curious, knit or crochet, male or female, young or seasoned, are invited to join the gathering in the FUMC library located in the basement room 110. Join us weekly, monthly, or anytime you can bring your project and join us.

It is time to sign up for Lay Servant Training this fall. The training location is Kingfisher United Methodist Church. The date is Saturday, Sept. 19. If you’ve never taken any of the Lay Servant courses, start with the Basic course being taught by Rev. Charles Durant, pastor at Cushing UMC. There are two advanced courses being taught this time: The Social Principles and Ministry with those affected by Dementia.
