New Sermon Series - God and the Cosmos
I have lots of questions about the universe. How did it begin? Are we alone, or are there others? What is the finish line? Perhaps you have questions too. For the next three weeks, we’ll explore these questions and more in a special summer sermon series called, “God and the Cosmos.”
This week, I’ll explain why I don’t experience a conflict between science and religion when it comes to how the universe began. Even if you do experience a conflict, I hope you’ll come “listen in” anyway.
I spent the first three days of this week at church camp with our 3rd and 4th graders. Our lessons were all about the beauty of creation and how it reflects God’s beauty to us. It was powerful preparation for this sermon series.
If you’re in town, I hope to see you Sunday!

First UMC Wildfire Response
Several in our church were impacted by the March 14 wildfires that swept through our community. Some lost homes, others had damage or lost buildings on their property, and others had to drive past burned homes everyday to reach their own.
A few weeks ago, Rosemary VanOrden, resident of the Pecan Hill/Crosswinds neighborhood, approached me about how we could respond as a church. She shared about the confusing experiences of grief and survivor guilt she saw in those around her. She mentioned the desire to have a neighborhood party so people could come back together. I thought that was a great idea. I have seen how healing the meal either before or after a funeral can be for families.
Rosemary and her neighbors organized that party for June 14. They invited Purdy Q food truck and Red Barn Coffee truck to provide the refreshments, sponsored by our church. It was a lovely day. The rain held off during the hours of the picnic held in the cul-de-sac. Neighbors shared food, conversation and fun. It was such a great experience.
Thanks to everyone who donated to the wildfire relief. Those funds were used to pay for the food and refreshments. Thanks for everyone who has been praying for all those who were impacted by such a terrible day. We were able to experience the grace of God making some of the broken places whole. I wanted you to see some of those photos!
