Get in the Game - Week 3 Update

Here’s how we scored in the third week of our sermon series, “Get in the Game!”
United Methodist Men – 5
United Women of Faith – 8
Bolivia Partnership – 2
Our Daily Bread – 17

I have been waiting a week to send responses to the various ministry leaders to give you an extra week to check the box on our response cards. So, you still have time to sign up for UMM, UWF, Bolivia and Our Daily Bread. This week, I sent responses out to leaders for our music ministry and our greeting ministry. As the organizer for Communion servers and lay readers, I made contact with those volunteers.

This Sunday, we'll wrap up our sermon series with an invitation to connect with a group. The sermon will be a call to raise your hand and say, “Put me in, coach!” Faith requires us to step forward and trust. Faith is built through action. I pray that you’ve had at least one opportunity in the last three weeks to raise your hand. If not, maybe this is the week!

I’m proud of you, Stillwater First UMC! I am praying that God will use our courage in stepping forward to expand our witness for Christ.

See you Sunday,
- Pastor Charla

Promotion Sunday Highlights

This past Sunday was Promotion Sunday, the day when our students advance to their next grade-level class at our church.

Our Children's Ministry celebrated with breakfast before Sunday School in the Social Hall. We had 30 children participate in five Sunday School classes from Preschool to 5th grade. Then, 32 children spent the afternoon jumping for joy at Ultimate Air. We'd have more pictures - but they never held still! Thank you to all of our wonderful teachers and parents who made Sunday's events possible.

A total of 35 youth joined us on Sunday! What a great day from Sunday School to Youth Group filled with friends, laughter, scripture and prayer, grilled burgers and dogs, homemade ice cream, games and huge inflatables!  Thank you to the moms who prepared all the food, and thanks to Space Walk for recommending the perfect inflatables to make this a memorable Promotion Sunday!

New ALS Benevolence Fund

Stillwater First United Methodist Church is excited to announce the launch of a new ALS Benevolence Fund to offer tangible support for those living with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and their caregivers!

This fund is designed to help cover essential expenses such as utilities, rent, equipment for PALS (Persons with ALS), supplies, and respite care for caregivers. We hope to ease some of the daily burdens so that families can focus on what truly matters: time together.

Whether you are walking through an ALS diagnosis yourself or caring for someone who is, we want you to know you are not alone. Together, as a church and community, we are here to walk alongside you with compassion, prayer, and practical help.

Please contact Pastor Corey (cshirey@fumcstw.org) with any questions you may have or to request support from this fund.

Weekend Food Sacks Update

The Children’s Weekend Food Sack program is preparing for the 2025/2026 school year! Karen Hinton, Nancy Allford and Linda Blum have been working over the summer to help secure ongoing funds needed for the program. We plan to pack 2,800 sacks at our August 26th food sacking event. We anticipate the numbers to increase as we know one in four children in Oklahoma are now identified as food insecure. With our supplemental sacks containing 11 items, we can help bridge the gap over the weekend for these children who rely on school meals during the week.

At this time the cost per food sack is $6.50, bringing the cost for one month for 2800 sacks to $18,200. To support one child for the school year for the 35 weeks we deliver would be $208. Funds for the program are 100% from donations. The community of Stillwater has been very helpful with their support. We are blessed to have our wonderful location at FUMC to house this project. If anyone would like to make a contribution, please contact the church office.

Disciple Bible Study

Disciple is a Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders. The study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. Disciple draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible.

Whether you have read through the Bible many times or never even opened the book, you’ll learn something new in this course. Pastor Charla will be teaching the introductory course which is a prerequisite for the second level course. Graduates from last year’s intro course will be teaching the second level course. Both courses will be taught Wednesday evenings, 6:30-8:00 pm. If you are interested in either one, please CLICK HERE to fill out the form to be placed on the mailing list for upcoming class info. If you have questions, please reach out to Pastor Charla by CLICKING HERE.

Living the Questions

This study strives to create an environment where participants have a safe space to question and interact with one another around some of the most difficult perplexities of faith. Each of the 21 sessions includes video reflections from leading Biblical scholars and probing group discussion. This group will meet on Sunday afternoons, 4:30-6:00 pm, led by Martha McMillian and Jim Lawler. You can sign up this Sunday or call the church office,
(405) 372-5854, to be placed on the mailing list for upcoming class info.
