Mission Statement & Beliefs

We are a church beyond walls.

The Mission

We are called to be a church beyond walls: strengthening our faith, sharing the gospel, & serving and loving our neighbor. This is our unique way to fulfill the mission of the United Methodist Church, “…to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

The Vision

The vision of First United Methodist Church Stillwater is create a community of authentic believers and to witness a world transformed by the life changing reality of the gospel, as people come to know Jesus as their Lord and savior.

Our Beliefs

Our beliefs share a great deal with other Christian denominations. We affirm the beliefs expressed in the Apostles Creed. These include:
The belief in one God, who is the Creator and sustainer of the universe.
The belief in the Trinity, that there is one God in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The belief in the divinity of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who is fully human and fully divine.
We believe God's grace is open to all, and therefore practice "open Communion,” meaning anyone may participate at the Lord’s Table. We believe salvation is a gift from God, accepted by individuals according to their own free will. We believe that God loves us right where we are and loves us too much to leave us there. Our journey toward a deeper trust in God depends upon our openness to God’s grace. Our worship, our fellowship, and our service flows as a grateful response to God’s good gifts in our lives.
