Hope House - A Resource Center for Foster Parents

Resource Center for Foster Families
314/316 W 8th St

The Hope House is a resource center for all foster families. If they are willing to drive over, we will serve them, either on one of our Shopping Days or when they receive a new placement. All we need from them is to see their placement papers. Everything is free to the family, but we ask them to return the items when they are outgrown, or no longer needed, so other families can use them.

Items available at the Hope House include:

Sizes Newborn thru Adult XL - includes shirts, pants, dresses, shorts, coats, shoes, new socks and new underwear.

Car seats, cribs, high chairs, strollers, potty chairs, etc.

Other items

Toys, books, baby blankets, bibs, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and more

“Shopping Days”

2nd Saturday of the month from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon.

Families are invited to get all they need for the children in their care. Families can come every month if they choose. This gives them an opportunity to get new sizes or clothes for a different season.

New Placements

Families can call the Hope House when they have a new placement, and we will make every effort to meet them there within 24 hours.  More often than not, children arrive at a foster home with nothing except maybe a trash bag with a few clothes, so getting them set up with what they need as quick as possible is very important.

Work Days

We have two work days a month – one on a Sunday from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., and the other on a Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. – Noon.

Volunteers are needed for the work days and the shopping days.

On Work Days, we are usually sorting through items that have arrived since the last work day, and either putting them out or saving them for the next season. There is also lots of organizing and re-organizing to do as more items comes in.

On Shopping Days, the volunteers help our guests by showing them where sizes are, bagging their items for them, and sometimes playing with the kiddos while the foster parent shops.

If you would like to volunteer, click here to go to our Sign-Up Genius or fill out the registration form below. It will list days and times, plus give you the opportunity to sign up.

E-Mail List

E-Mail is used to get information, such as reminders of upcoming volunteer opportunities, special needs the Hope House has, and celebrations of exciting news about the Hope House, to interested persons.

If you would like to receive these e-mails, please send an e-mail to Leanne Chaffin at and you will be added to the list.

Clothing – Only clothing that is in very good shape will be put out. We want these children to be clothed in the same manner we would want our own children clothed – no stains, tears, missing buttons or broken zippers.
Equipment – Equipment needs to be clean and in good working order.
We cannot accept used car seats, mattresses, or cribs with drop sides.
Monetary – Funds are needed to purchase car seats (since we cannot accept used ones), cribs (if none are available), office supplies, plastic tubs for sorting and Welcome Baskets and other needs as they arise – example: the shed we purchased to house our equipment.

Our Guests – It has been a joy to meet some of the people who are opening their hearts and their homes to these special children, and it is a blessing to be able to help them in any way we can in their journey.
