Hope House - A Resource Center for Foster Parents

ABOUT HOPE HOUSE

Hope House is a resource center for foster families offering many of the items a family would need when they receive foster children into their home – clothing, shoes, toys, books, baby items, high chairs, strollers, cribs*, car seats*, Welcome Baskets*, etc. Hope House, while being a part of First United Methodist Church, is run by volunteers and supported through donations from the whole Stillwater community, and beyond.

*Car Seats, Cribs and Welcome Baskets are all new items that have to be purchased with our funds, so they are only available to families in Payne County. (Welcome Baskets are a collection of new items for a child when they are first placed in a foster home. All Welcome Baskets contain an age-appropriate Bible, book, blanket/quilt, stuffed animal, toy and photo album. These items belong to the child and stay with him/her even if they return home or are moved to another foster home.

HOW HOPE HOUSE WORKS

Hope House is open the 2nd Saturday of each month for foster families to come “shop” - all items are free! ANY foster family (not just Payne County) can come shop, we just ask that they bring their placement papers with them. The family can get as many clothes as they need, one package of diapers per child, new socks and underwear, toothbrushes, and much more.

When a family receives a new placement, they can call Hope House and someone will try to meet them there within 24 hours to help them find the items they need to get started caring for the child(ren).

HOW TO VOLUNTEER

Hope House needs volunteers for works days – sorting and hanging new donations, etc, and shopping days – helping the foster families find the items they need.

There are typically two work days per month, a Thursday morning from 10 a.m. – Noon, and a Sunday afternoon from 2:00-5:00 p.m. We can also set special work days for groups that want to do a mission project together.

The shopping day is the 2nd Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. – Noon (volunteers need to be there by 9:45 a.m. to receive instructions).

To see a list of upcoming work and shopping days, and to sign up to volunteer, go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c44aca82f4-hope3 .

If you would like to be on an e-mail list to receive reminders of upcoming work days, shopping days, and current needs, please send your name and e-mail address to mlchaffin78@gmail.com.

HOW TO DONATE

Donations of items** can be left in the office of First United Methodist Church, and we will get them from there. If you have a very large donation, call 405-385-2475, and set a time for someone to meet you at Hope House to receive the donations.

Hope House also has a “WISH LIST” of specific items we are currently low on. You can find it at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f054dafaa2ea0fb6-hope1.

Monetary donations are also appreciated. These donations pay for car seats, cribs, welcome baskets, supplies/fixtures, etc. Checks can be made to “FUMC” with “Hope House” on the memo line.

**All donations of used items must be in very good shape. Hope House will not keep anything with stains, tears, missing buttons, etc. We want these children feel good about the clothes they wear.
